Software-In-the-Loop (SIL) simulation, evaluates the implementation of a developed system on general-purpose hardware, instead of the specific hardware where the system is purposed to run (e.g., embedded systems, industrial computers, etc.). By applying virtual simulation technologies at different abstraction levels, several types of simulation can be defined. Simulation is a valuable tool for easing those processes, allowing the integration of tests with the physical platforms to be carried out only in the last stages of their development. The design, implementation, and testing of robotic models in real world are costly, time-consuming, complicated, and often not reproducible. All of these situations resulting from the usage scenarios must be accommodated when designing the radio. A military SDR mounted on a jet aircraft must operate under extreme conditions at high or low altitudes, at high or low speeds, in the desert or high mountains, in rain or sandstorms. Other fundamental parameters that are byproducts of the device's usage scenarios include rain, temperature, durability, and altitude, among others. The SWaP parameters tend to be the most difficult to meet in any design, be it commercial or military. Its power consumption must be low enough that it can operate without charging the battery for a reasonable amount of time. It must be light and small enough to be carried in a purse or a pocket, or be held by hand during operation. For example, a handheld device must conform to a certain form factor in its size and weight. The latter, however, may suffer from coexistence interference due to other waveforms running simultaneously on the same laptop with antennas close by, thus requiring the radio to have better interference rejection and selectivity than the former.Īnother important aspect of the physical platform is the size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP). Similarly, if a certain commercial waveform is used in a cellular phone where the range of communication may suffer due to the device's proximity to the body, this may require the radio to have lower noise figure and higher PA output power compared to a radio using the same waveform integrated into a laptop computer in a similar channel environment. In the former case, the SDR must account for the negative antenna gain with better noise figure than the latter to obtain the same receiver performance. Compare this to a radio mounted on a nonstealthy aircraft communicating with the same waveform in a similar LOS environment using an external antenna with sufficient gain. The UHF antenna is integrated into the skin of the plane, thus resulting in negative antenna gain. For example, consider a radio mounted on a stealthy military aircraft communicating via a UHF waveform in a line-of-sight (LOS) environment. The physical platform on which the radio will be mounted is a key element in defining the radio's performance. Rouphael, in RF and Digital Signal Processing for Software-Defined Radio, 2009 4.1.2.2 Physical Platform (Obviously, no prediction is perfect, so there will be false alarms as well as failures that were not predicted.) If such an indication occurs, the resource manager can migrate virtual machines running on that physical node to other nodes. Data mining techniques are then used to study these logs, with a view to identifying pending failure “signatures,” that is, we look for sets of events in the log, which typically indicate that a significant failure is about to occur. This information is first processed to remove duplicates (i.e., the same underlying issue being recorded multiple times, as events spaced a short duration apart). They may be listed as irrecoverable or recoverable after a certain number of attempts. Events may be classified as hardware, software, or undetermined. These logs maintain information about when each failure-related event occurred in the node. Such deterioration can be detected by mining node event logs. The physical platform on which virtual machines execute can deteriorate with time. Mani Krishna, in Fault-Tolerant Systems (Second Edition), 2021 8.10.2 Proactive Virtual Machine Migration
